Salomon have unveiled the third version of its carbon-plated road running shoe, the S/LAB Phantasm 3. This brand new iteration comes with a completely new upper and midsole construction. The shoe was tested in a wind tunnel for optimal aerodynamics, reducing aerodynamic drag by 28% and weighing in at just 199 grams, this shoe is 10% lighter than its predecessor, the S/LAB Phantasm 2. Featuring a new foam for increased resiliency and more foam for increased performance. The S/LAB Phantasm 3 features a brand new “cache-coeur” upper construction – a gaiter that covers the laces up to the ankle to create a smooth surface all over the foot. The midsole is designed with a unique construction to keep all transitions round, avoiding any sharp edges to improve aerodynamics. It features more optiFOAM+ in the midsole with PEBA foam that is softer and more resilient to provide all the resilience needed to keep pushing at high speeds. The spoon-shaped energy BLADE carbon plate is paired with an updated rocker construction with a lower drop, from 37mm/28mm to 39mm/33mm (which meets the stack limit of 40mm from the World Athletics Organisation) with a more aggressive geometry to improve propulsion.
